When Local SEO Matters More Than Classic SEO: Promoting a Tattoo Studio in Paris
A case study where the main client-acquisition channel wasn't the website but the Google Business Profile. The example of a Paris tattoo studio shows how local SEO can deliver views, calls, directions and traffic even with minimal classic SEO work on the site.
Contents
For a local business in Europe, classic site SEO is far from always the most important channel. If a company operates in a specific city and gets clients from maps, calls and directions, then Google Maps and Google Business Profile can deliver results faster and more noticeably than traditional website promotion.
In this case the main growth came not from classic site SEO but from properly structured work with the Google Business Profile: optimizing the profile, content, reviews and local signals.
About the project
Niche: Tattoo Studio / Tattoo Artist | Region: Paris, France | Period: 12 months | Budget: €150 / month | Main channel: Google Business Profile
Starting point
At the start of promotion the project was in a weak position:
- there was no website at all;
- the Google Business Profile had only just been created;
- there were almost no reviews;
- the profile didn't rank for commercial queries.
| Metric | Starting state |
|---|---|
| Profile views | Almost none |
| Interactions | Minimal |
| Calls | Occasional |
| Direction requests | Practically none |
| Website traffic | Minimal |
Problems
1. No local optimization
The Google Business Profile wasn't optimized: a weak description, wrongly chosen categories and empty services kept the profile from ranking properly for commercial queries.
2. No content
The profile had almost no photos, posts or regular updates. For a local business this is critical, because inactive profiles usually get less visibility in Google Maps.
3. Low trust level
Few reviews, a weak rating and a lack of local signals reduced both user trust and ranking potential.
4. No Local SEO strategy
The profile wasn't optimized for the main commercial queries: tattoo shop, tattoo shop near me, tatoueur paris, tattoo paris.

Key success factors
1. Google Business Profile as the main channel
For a local business, Google Maps can be the main source of clients, especially when the service is chosen quickly and in a specific location.
2. Regular profile activity
Photos, posts, updates and replies to reviews noticeably strengthen rankings.
3. Review management
Reviews strengthen user trust, local signals and the profile's positions.
4. Local SEO signals
Directories, brand mentions and geographic signals help reinforce local visibility.
An interesting effect: AI recommendations
After the profile grew in Google Maps, the business also started appearing in recommendations from AI systems, because such systems take into account Google Maps, reviews, local signals and brand mentions.
Conclusion
The main takeaway of the case: for a local business the Google Business Profile can matter more than classic site SEO. A proper Local SEO strategy can bring a flow of clients even without full-scale website SEO.
In a number of niches it's Google Maps that becomes the main acquisition channel. A budget of €150 a month delivered 130 calls, 1,123 direction requests and 38,100 profile views.
