About the project

Niche: Informational pet site (dog breeds, cat care, pet products)
Market: Ukraine + Russian-speaking audience
Timeline: 16 months (Mar 2025 – Jul 2026)
Channel: Organic search — content SEO
Result: 126 → 13,622 clicks/mo (×108)

The project started from scratch: a fresh domain with no history and no backlinks. The bet was on useful content at scale, precisely matched to what the audience actually searches for — from dog breeds to care guides and product choices.

🔒 Anonymised case: company name and domain hidden per client agreement.

Starting point

At the start the site got a handful of visits and most pages ranked on pages 3–5 of Google. Here is the baseline in March 2025.

Organic clicks/mo≈ 126
Impressions/mo≈ 36,000
Keywords in top-3 (Ahrefs)≈ 0
Total indexed keywords (Ahrefs)≈ 818 (mostly positions 21–50)

What was done

1. Demand-driven content strategy

Built the keyword map around high-volume informational topics (breeds, care, feeding, products) and planned the editorial calendar around real queries, not guesses.

2. Bilingual content and structure

Developed Ukrainian and Russian versions with correct language markup to cover both audience segments without cannibalisation.

3. Intent optimisation

Reworked titles, structure and depth so pages sitting on page 2–3 climbed into the top-3 for their queries.

4. Internal linking and clusters

Connected articles into topical clusters, boosting relevance and spreading authority to key pages.

5. Technical health at scale

Kept indexation, speed and structure clean as the site grew to thousands of URLs.

The key shift is quality, not just quantity: keywords in the top-3 grew from zero to ~750, while the long tail beyond position 51 all but disappeared. Domain Rating (Ahrefs DR) rose to 44 with 275 referring domains, and estimated traffic value is around $530/mo.

How people found the site

Almost all traffic is non-branded: people arrive via informational and product queries, not the site name. Top queries for May–July 2026:

Query / topicClicksImpr.Position
Maltipoo (dog breed)1,103211,2293.0
Chihuahua422150,1211.9
Poodle409106,1771.3
Cooling mat for dogs27115,7424.8
Doberman210108,2793.1

Growth came from ranking gains on high-volume queries: for example, one flagship breed query moved from ~6.2 to 3.0, another from 6.5 to 3.1. At this impression volume, every step up delivers a big jump in clicks.

💡 Useful content at scale, precisely matched to search intent, turned a brand-new domain into a resource that consistently ranks top-3 for high-volume queries. That is the compounding engine of content SEO.

Conclusion

In 16 months the site grew 108× in organic clicks — from 126 to 13,622 a month — entirely through organic search, with no paid traffic. And it is still climbing: the last three months added +79%, with July an all-time high.
