Couch Steamers is a US service for steam cleaning of couches, mattresses and upholstery, running a multi-city model: a dedicated landing page per city. At the start it was practically a new domain — weak authority (DR 7), a small backlink profile and 182 clicks a month from Google.
The goal: turn the site into a steady client-acquisition channel across several US cities, ranking not only branded but also commercial queries like "upholstery cleaning + city".
Starting point
Baseline as of May 2026:
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Clicks from Google / mo | 182 |
| Impressions / mo | ~28,000 |
| Average position | 5.1 |
| Referring domains | 148 |
| Ahrefs Domain Rating | 7 |
What we did
A network of local city pages
Built a structure of dedicated landing pages per city (Atlanta, Portland, Raleigh, Dallas) with unique content, services and geo-signals — instead of one generic "services" page.
Commercial semantics
Collected and mapped demand to real customer phrasing: upholstery cleaning, couch cleaning, sofa cleaning + city and "near me". Rewrote titles and H1s for these queries.
Aggressive link building
Grew the backlink profile from 148 to 891 referring domains; Domain Rating rose from 7 to 34 — giving pages the authority to compete at the top.
Local signals & GBP
Strengthened local signals: Google Business Profile tied to city landing pages, NAP consistency, maps. For a local service this is the key lead source.
Technical base & content
Cleaned up indexing, speed and structure; added an expert blog (steam-cleaning safety, allergens, stain types) supporting topical authority.
Results
| Metric | Before (May) | After (Sep) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clicks from Google / mo | 182 | 423 | +132% |
| Impressions / mo | ~28,000 | ~92,000 | ×3.3 |
| Average position | 5.1 | 3.7 | ↑ |
| Domain Rating | 7 | 34 | ×4.9 |
| Referring domains | 148 | 891 | ×6 |
Over 4 months clicks from Google more than doubled, impressions tripled, and the average position improved from 5.1 to 3.7. In parallel domain authority grew (DR 7→34) and the backlink mass ×6 — the foundation the rankings rest on. October is tracking ahead (~515 clicks/mo pace).

Queries and positions in Google Search Console

Branded queries are growing too, but the key point is that the site genuinely ranks in the top-3 for general commercial queries, not just its own name.
Takeaway
